I am a principal research follow at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science. My research focuses on understanding mechanisms of seasonal to decadal climate variability and anthropogenic climate change, including Atlantic Ocean variability and its impact on global climate, impact of aerosol on regional and global climate, particularly aerosol impact on the East Asian and West African summer monsoons, detection and attribution of extreme climate and weather events. I am also interested in understanding the East Asian monsoon formation through paleoclimate modelling.
I have developed and maintained a strong collaboration with Chinese scientists from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) and the Institute of Earth Environment (IEE)/ Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in research areas of climate variability, predictability, and climate changes over East Asia.
